Our Philosophy

SNH Tango is a community of dancers in Southern New Hampshire who are committed to learning and building community through Argentine Tango.
We learn tango through building sensitivity awareness and muscle memory.  The body learns to move in new ways and remembers.  Our senses learn the subtle language of the dance through connection, communication and response. We learn to be in the moment and with each other, to connect and move together through space. Tango is a conversation in its own language spoken between two people dancing and with the other dancers in the ronda.

While performance or fantasy tango is beautiful and moving, it is really meant for the stage and not the social dance floor.  Conscious of this, we teach elements of social tango dancing so that everything you learn in class is relative to what you can bring to the dancefloor.
Classes that are accessible and engaging make for happier tango students and that is important to us. Because we want our growing NH Tango community to be warm, welcoming and vibrant, we will strive to help anyone wishing to be part of this social fun.

Our aim is to nurture a Southern New Hampshire tango community of social dancers who are prepared to integrate into social dance communities all over the world. And, to warmly welcome tango dancers of other communities into ours.

About Us

Jamie and Scott of SNH Tango have been dancing for many years and  together for well over a decade. They have traveled for tango nationally and internationally and are passionate in sharing the universal language of Argentine Tango as a social dance. Building a vibrant and welcoming tango community is their motivation.  They bring a blend of tango styles to the dance floor and into their current classes that they teach in
Southern New Hampshire.

Jamie Lynx

At a very young age, Jamie would initiate singing and dancing  in public places. This would quickly attract the attention and amusement of any passersby, encouraging her love of music and dance.  She attended the Acting Factory in Manchester, NH, theater camp, and private voice. She sang at an evening dinner venue with a piano accompanist at the age of 10.  Her love of movement and the arts never wavered.

Driven by her passions she pursued a degree in Fine Arts and later attended graduate school for Waldorf Teacher training where she explored further explored education as well as Waldorf pedagogy, human development, visual arts, movement, Eurythmy and Spatial Dynamics.   During this time she also fell in love with Argentine Tango. This love became a passion leading to intensive studying and dancing most every day traveling nationally and internationally month-long immersions in Buenos Aires. She has studied with well known Argentine Tango masters such as Jorge Torres, Christina and Homer Ladas, Fernanda Ghi, Guillermo Merlo and Orlando Farias, among others.

Scott Tilton

Scott was born in Aurora, Colorado but grew up in Marlborough, New Hampshire. Starting at age 6 he played the lead role as Jumping Mouse in the Marlborough Theater’s annual play. He continued to dance and sing every summer throughout his elementary and middle school years.

When he was 12 he joined NHDI (New Hampshire Dance Institute). The following year he was selected for NHDI’s SWAT team which meant performing throughout the state. Dance was all but lost for Scott in High School as he focused on academics and sports. Wrestling was something he had been good at for some time, even winning State Champion in 8th grade. Pole Vaulting would become another sport he loved and excelled in.

Once he graduated high school Scott’s life shifted dramatically when he was coerced back into dance; This time, Argentine Tango. Little did he know that first class would shape his future. Since that day Scott has danced in 12 major cities across the globe and even had the opportunity to study tango in Buenos Aires with Ana Maria Schapira.

When Scott isn’t on the dance floor he enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, camping, and relaxing with his son, Maxton.
